BC Acreage Homes — FAQ
How is an acreage home different from a farm?
Acreage homes are rural single-family houses on larger lots (often 1–20+ acres). Farms are ALR/agricultural properties and may include plantings, irrigation, barns or farm tax status.
What services should I check (well, septic, power)?
Request well logs and recent flow tests, septic age/records, and electrical capacity for the home and any shop/barn. In some areas, natural gas is limited; plan for propane or electric.
Can I keep horses or run a small hobby operation?
Often yes, but it depends on zoning and lot size. ALR properties follow provincial rules plus local bylaws; rural residential zoning has its own limits. Confirm both before you buy.
